Pedal Back The Years events are:
• Designed to help those who want to get more active, more often, or those who have not cycled for a long time to regain confidence on a bicycle.
• Short, fairly flat guided cycle events on beautiful cycle routes across the
county.
• Leisurely in pace with rest stops and a refreshment break.

PICTURE CREDITS: Lindley Owen, Dave Cuffwright
The Routes:

•  All rides are at a leisurely pace, with regular rest stops.

•  Route descriptions let you know which are flat, easy to cycle and of short distance, and which are more testing: with some gradients, road sections or of greater length.

•  Specially tailored events can be arranged for specific groups, where a suitable route can be found. These rides are arranged in response to requests where an event would be well attended by people keen to join the scheme.

For information about how to get involved, turn up at one of our events and see for yourself! Or contact:

  • Help to adjust bikes, help you to start off, explain brakes, gears and anything else you are unsure of.
  • Are able to carry out minor mechanical repairs and have skills in Emergency Management.
  • No-one will ever be left behind, or need to feel they are holding people up.
  • Want to get more involved? We are always looking for more Voluntee rSupport Riders! Free one day training provided. Please contact the project Office for details.

Health Check and the benefits of activity :

  • We all have varying degrees of physical limitations. Whilst every care and guidance will be given, it is up to the individual to know his or her own body limits. If you have any health concerns, you should contact your GP.

  • Taking exercise a few times a week can make you feel good, give you more energy, strengthen your heart and help to keep your weight down.

  • The Pedal Back The Years scheme provides rides suitable for all levels of confidence and fitness. Come along and give it a go— you'll be amazed at what you can achieve with encouragement from our Support Riders and other people taking part in the scheme.

What to Expect:

  • You will probably feel apprehensive if you have not cycled for a while, but remember these events are designed just for you.
  • Before the ride we encourage people to give cycling a try around the cycle hire centre or meeting point.
  • Anyone can attend a Pedal Back The Years event, but enrolment onto the scheme will entitle you to free hire of equipment for your introductory ride.
  • All rides are every two weeks, most departing at 12.00 noon , each lasting approximately two hours.
